The Master of Gifting… Corbin Chamberlin

What is your favorite holiday tradition?
CC: Every December, I really try to reflect on the past year both good and bad. The winter solstice especially is a great time for manifestation, to think about what you want to bring for the year ahead.

And I have two daughters and I try to do as many traditional holiday things as possible with them. So baking cookies, a lot of cooking together… and then any act of charity. We do as many charitable things that we can throughout the month, not for one particular organization or group.

Especially in years of uncertainty and when things are feeling tense in the world, I really do lean into holiday traditions.

Where do you find cheer during the holiday season?

CC: Cheer is something that I look for all year round, but there’s something about the holiday season where you’re able to wear it on your sleeve a little bit more. Decorating your home, covering a tree in tinsel… I think that there’s a certain cheerful energy that November and December bring that I look for in other people.

Like gifting, I love to gift. I think I’m kind of a master at it. Before Sage & Salt, I used to write gift guides for Vogue. Also just day to day, I find myself, whether it may be the stereotype or not, a little bit more generous and kind around the holidays.

So speaking of gift giving, what’s your favorite gift you’ve ever received?
CC: My children is the right answer, but a green crocodile Birkin is number two.

What’s your favorite gift you’ve ever given?
CC: I’m a gifter….like a crystal Santa! I gift all year round. Just be mentioning it, I will buy it. I’ll gift it to them early. I can’t wait. Why delay the joy? I cannot delay joy. I just love to gift and people are very generous with me, but I try to match that energy in my day to day life as much as possible.

My favorite gift that I’ve ever given is I just bought Brian Bolke a rare Hermes bag he had been coveting since the 90’s, but I don’t know if he’ll want me to say that. I spent months and months looking for it.

If you could have a toast or a cheers with anyone living or dead, who would it be?
CC: I have to tell you—right now I’m Meryl Streep obsessed again! And so I would love to have a moment with Meryl.
